Western National Gymnastics Champion (2013) - Sarah Johnstone
Upland Christian Academy Sophomore Sarah Johnstone finished 1st in the All Around at the USA Gymnastics Western Championships for 2013 in Roseville CA. She qualified to compete at this National competition by finishing in the top 12 in Phoenix in April. Sarah placed 1st out of 48 gymnast in the All Around and medaled on Vault (6th place), Bars (7th place) and Beam (4th place). Gymnasts from 24 western states were her competition and she had her personal best AA score ever (37.750).
Pro Update - Ethan Chapman
Ethan Chapman was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 2012 and he played his rookie A ball for the Idaho Falls Chukars. He was named the team's player of the year and was invited back to Kansas City for an awards ceremony before the start of the Royals - Angels game. He led the team in 10 offensive catagories this season. While at Upland Christian, he was a 3-time all-CIF Southern Section selection and CIF MVP…Played three seasons of football at UCHS, twice earning all-CIF honors… Selected for senior all-star games in both sports. At Cal St Univ. San Bernardino, Ethan was named 1st-team All-CCAA and was the only freshman on either first or second team… Named 2nd-team ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region… Earned Honorable Mention NCBWA All-West Region… Tied the school record with 14 home runs. After his junior year, he was named to Daktronics All-West Region baseball squad. He was named to the All - CCAA team. Chapman established the single-season (six) and career (12) triples record this season. The Upland native is hitting .335 and leads the team in at-bats (179), runs (34), hits (60), triples (6) and stolen bases (13). In his career, he ranks fifth in at-bats, third in hits, third in runs, fifth in doubles, eighth in home runs and third in stolen bases.
New Athletic Equipment
New Athletic Equipment - scoreboards, goal post, uniforms, video equip The athletic department has been blessed by the school's golf tournament the last two years and has been able to purchase new scoreboard in the gym and on the football field. Football installed new goal post and bleachers while all the varsity teams are getting new uniforms.
College Update - Kirsten Edgemon
Kirsten Edgemon, class of 2012 is playing at Cal State Univ. San Bernardino's volleyball team for her freshman year. CSUSB is ranked #2 in the NCAA D2 divison. A four-year letter-winner for the Eagles… A four-time team MVP who helped her squads to three league championships… Four-time all-league selection, capped by league MVP her senior season… Helped her team reach CIF her first three seasons… Team captured CIF crown her sophomore year and was the CIF Finalist her junior year. Played softball her freshman and sophomore years and earned all-league honors both years and all CIF honors her sophomore year.
College Update - Hannah Wagner
Hannah Wagner, class of 2011 is playing volleyball at Cedarville University, a NCAA D2 school. She is one of their best players and was the conference Player of the Week this year. She was named to the NCCAA Midwest Region Team and a member of Ohio Independent Championship Team. She was named to the National Christian School Athletic Association (NCSAA) All-America First Team as a senior.....earned Third Team honors during junior season. Her team earned the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section championship in 2009 and runner-up honors in 2010.....two-time All-CIF First Team recognition.....All-Inland Valley Second Team in 2010 and Third Team in 2009.....three-time All-Arrowhead League First Team performer.
